Wine Weekends with Michael Broadbent

— We will arrive in late morning from Beaune, about an hour's drive. Some of us will have spent the week visiting estates and domaines in Burgundy as part of the Grand Tour; others may be joining us for the weekend. We'll check into our rooms at the Georges Blanc and get settled.

Michael Broadbent

We meet the Broadbents over an apertif and get acquainted. Then we're off to Pouilly Fuisse for lunch in a marvelous small restaurant in the village, in the middle of the vineyards, where we'll drink the local wines.

Optional excursion after lunch: a visit to a nearby vineyard to taste some top-notch wines, such as Andre Bonhomme in Macon-Vire.

Tonight we plan an informal dinner at the Ancienne Auberge, one of the restaurants at Georges Blanc. It's a loving recreation of the original auberge as it was at the turn of the century, when the legendary "Mere Blanc" was working her culinary magic in the kitchen.

[Tips from Mr. Broadbent]
Private cellar valuation: For guests of this program, Michael will offer a professional assessment of your cellar and your buying strategy. Private meetings will be scheduled with guests who are interested in this valuable service.

Sunday morning Michael will lead a formal tasting of Bordeaux, with wines representative of each major district. This program is similar to the famous "Christie's Master Classes" that he conducts in London. A light lunch will follow.

This afternoon, we've planned a little trip into Macon, just north of Vonnas. A pretty town on the Saone, Macon boasts several fine restaurants along the water. We'll stop at Le St. Laurent, a great brasserie which specializes in regional freshwater fish and shellfish dishes.

After a rest back at Georges Blanc, it's time for our grand closing dinner in its fabulous Michelin three-star dining room. We'll have a pre-dinner tasting of top class wines from all over France, with commentary from Mr. Broadbent. Then a fantastic meal; details about the menu will be available by mid-summer 1999.

We’ll also be doing a similar program in July, as part of the Grand Tour. Do join us!
